symmetrical and asymmetrical forms of nature in the ceramic studio, is inspired by historical objects and produces vessels that imitate natural specimens such as erect cone shells and popped milk pits. The sculptures are familiar to the surf of the white ocean from the same shadows and color. Keeping a very limited pallet allows McCurdy to emphasize the empty spaces of the pieces and to cast them into the shadows of the pieces.
"I and one of them have the qualities of light and shadow that I would like to describe using a straight body," says McCurdy in the artist's account. "After throwing it on the wheel of the crafted potter, I change the form to create a soft shadow movement, hardening the porcelain skin, digging the patterns to add energy and counterpoint, I fire the cone 10, which becomes porcelain nonporous and translucent."
